Six days into our 2 week vacation, we’re back in civilized territory, freshly bathed and temporarily internet-connected at McAvoy Meadow Ranch in Cottage Grove, Oregon. One night in Sacto with Judi. Three star-filled nights on the Klamath with a bear across the river and canoe lessons for the dogs. Lessons, mind you, that went completely unappreciated. Noche doesn’t like moving water and Princess Ginger doesn’t like to get her feet wet. We went in search of still water to continue their instruction and found it at Toketee Resevoir in Umpqua National Forest, driving along stunning sections of the Rogue River before settling into camp on the North Umpqua, just above the lake. Our first lake paddle went better than our river paddle. Our second lake paddle went better than our first. We love this area and we’ll be back.
Now, we’re happily visiting Helen and Bob, learning about Shetland Sheep and looking for the perfect (for us) riverfront property, and dreaming of figuring out how to make it home. Next stop: the Nehalem River and a visit with Jennifer, Watt, Willa and Roan. Stay tuned!

Glad to hear from OR crew. First time I have
seen animals with lifejackets! I had just left
Wes note to see if she had heard from you. Michele called a little while ago and Shaun got
to the summit at noon and was on his way down.
He is within time limits so hopefully he won’t
fall and get hurt. Forgot to ask if it was still raining. She was driving down and that
takes an hour. Steve swam 1 1/2miles this morning in a race and did okay he said. Girls
are working on computers now that they have two. Dad is refinishing doors for girls and
doing bench for garage. Great weather today
after some pretty humid stuff. Lobsterfest at
chucrh was moved inside last night but fun any
way. Our new awning comes on Tues so then we
can enjoy deck more! love you all
Oh, forgot to tell you your photos are great but we need to see Laura! Your vacation looks
wonderful and Steve looks very relaxed and happy in that natural pose for him. love ya
Hi fellow vacationers! Well, the pictures are beautiful and the dogs in life jackets are hysterical!!!!!!! Do they make those for cats?
Sounds like you are having a great vacation.
Shaun has finished. His time was under 5 hours on the ascent of the mountain and just over 3 going down. So total was 8:05:33!! WOW! And to update, yes he had one tumble but just a small cut on his hand and some cuts on his knees. Mostly right now he is tired and he says he is never doing it again BUT it was a great race and a great experience. I wait for the next race announcement and I am sure it will be even more of a challenge, especially if Bill has any input.
Have fun! We are heading home tomorrow and I am ready to put the suitcase away for sometime.
Love everyone.
Oh, congratulations Mike! Awesome job and what a great accomplishment. Now you are just an Ol’ fireman.
Hats off to Shaun. Wow… I can’t run up the driveway, let alone up Pike’s Peak. But no surprise that you can. You’ll sleep well tonight!
Oh, and there’s a reason I take the pictures… no pictures of me!
Mike and I just got home from a weekend in the City (San Francisco, that is) and were glad to see a post from the travelers (I was worried since I haven’t heard from you in many days). I LOVE the pictures! Ginger is such a cutie. It warms my heart to see dad with that genuine smile (not the cheesy grin). Hats off to Shaun and Steve for their athletic accomplishments!! Time to unpack, do some laundry and rest before another week.
Those are some true “we are on vacation!!!” pics. I agree with the masses-Steve looks like he has left every care in the world behind! How on earth did you manage to end up with two water-phobic dogs? One would think they would be appreciative of being able to join mom and dad and not be forced to risk life, limb and wet fur. But that’s the nature of dogs…always contrary. Enjoy week 2!
These events and vacations seem to go on and on. Next event I think is Steve swimming four
miles in Lake MI at Chicago. Of course, Wes’
goes on each day. Today we take Shaun and Michele’s babies home as they miss them lots.
We are having great weather so look forward to
our new awning tomorrow. Dad does his daily
4 miles most days but then likes the deck!
Of course, after work in the garage right now!
Love you all
