Rollerblades

Grandpa couldn’t resist, again! He never bought me rollerblades when I was 11 but when Shelly asks for them…lets go shopping. The girls are enjoying rollerblading this holiday weekend thanks to early birthday presents from grandpa and grandma. I can barely keep up with Shelly. Jill is learning fast but it makes her more confident knowing grandpa’s hand is there to hold on to.

    Laura,
I switched the preview picture from one that was in a portrait position to one that was in a landscape position and it seemed to make the preview picture less blurring. Is there a reason for this?

We had plans for Pottery Creations and found out they were closed for holiday so we found new thing to do. The park was great and they could sail along on the trails – sidewalk at home much more difficult. Dad does well on terrible skates and Grandpa got big workout walking along. Hope you all had fun, too!

Y’know – I will have to look but I think Uncle Shaun and I have roller blades – maybe Shaun’s will fit Grandpa!

Dad – good job! You are playing the grandpa role just right, keep it up!

Steve, when the file size is reduced to make the thumbnail, the image blurs. This is normal, and if you were re-sizing manually, you would be able to sharpen the images a little bit. I am neurotic about such things so don’t use the built-in thumbnails that are created automatically when you upload photos via exhibit. If you want to do it manually too, give me a jingle and I’ll walk you through what to do. By the way… I’m so proud of you … before the images were too pixelated to even know they were fuzzy! The more you know, the more there is to know …

Steve, I re-read your comment about switching the orientation of your preview image and finding it looks better. Hadn’t read the second comment close enough the first time around. But yep, you’re on track with this. It’s a limitation of the software coding that it expects a horizontal orientation. Generally, thumnails are 120×160 pixels with the 160 being the width. When you switch to vertical, the preview image is forced to display 160 pixels wide even though it only has 120 pixels of data. Result: a pixelated blurry image. Again, there are work-arounds in the form of manually creating your own thumbnails … I’ve actually fixed a couple you uploaded in the past. Or you can just choose a horizontal picture for the preview.

You might have also noticed that the javascript “slideshow” works best when all of the images are the same orientation and the same size (and as you already know, none of the captions have apostrophes or quote marks). It’s the little things …

The reason I never bought in-line skates is really simple: in the dark ages of his youth, there were no such things as in-line skates. Steven just doesn’t realize how old he is getting. Pretty soon he will be talking about the “good old days” when he walked 10 miles to school…bare footed…in 6 feet of snow…uphill both ways.

I have to tell you…A little girl in my 2nd grade class was talking to me about her dad and she told me (in a very serious manner) that her dad didn’t ride the bus like her; he had to walk 10 miles to school in deep snow with no shoes on and with no winter coat and a warm potato to keep his hands warm. Now, since I am in a poor district I guess it could be true but boy, that story sounds really familiar, doesn’t Dad?

Loren told me to read this because he responded to Michele. I only found reponse to Steve. Maybe he didn’t ‘say it’. I don’t want him on any skates! He left for class so
can’t ask! Story does sound familiar, Michele!
