Gotta catch up

… with my little brother. I love it that you’re posting, Steve, but I’ve been negligent and am starting to look bad. The problem is I go too many directions. At least in my head. School started yesterday. That’s good. School keeps me focused. Someone tells me what they expect me to do and I do it, as best I can. Whereas life is wide open, full of possibilities, limited mostly by my belief in myself, my energy and available dollars. I go a bzillion directions. Today the most recent City tax measure either passes or it doesn’t. Will I come out of this election with a job? Maybe so. The votes are being counted right now. With 33% counted, the measure is passing 58% to 42%. If not, what will we do? Cottage Grove, Oregon beckons. They even have a job opening suited for me right now… Community Coordinator. Reports to the City Manager (afterall, it’s only a City of 9,000,) and does a little bit of everything. Based out of the Community Center which encompasses a Senior Center, it’s right up my alley. Not much money, and with Steve’s income here, how could it work? But I’m applying. Who knows what is next?! For now, back to work tomorrow. And for one of my school projects … a website for McMeadow Shetland Sheep at McAvoy Meadow Ranch in … you know it … Cottage Grove. Love them sheep … love Helen and Bob too …

Good news! Measure X passed 58% to 42%. As it turns out 33.5% was all the votes. Perhaps Oregon will have to wait for us a little longer. Although we still have a 1.5 million dollar deficit hanging over us and when City labor negotiations start up again this fall, it will likely be ugly. Surely, union battles are making things hellish in Steve’s world. Bus drivers are set to strike tomorrow. Our work places share top billing in the newspaper this morning … “Santa Cruz Voters Approve Utility Tax” and “Bus Riders Brace for Thursday Strike”. Times are hard. And yet, compared to what folks in New Orleans are going through, we are merely tip toeing through tulips. Even after experiencing major earthquake devastation, it’s impossible to imagine the full scope of their loss. I need to remember to be grateful for all that I have.

Yes, we should all count our blessings. As for going in a million directions, I forgot to tell you that I scheduled pedicures for you (Laura) and I at Spoiled Rotten for Saturday, Sept 10th at 10:30am. I’ve got to have pretty toes for my sandals in Spain!

Yeah, Laura! You give a busy girl something to do and it is done – thanks, Wes. The Katrina
Hurrican news just gets worse each day! We are
all grateful and can count our blessings. Now
one hundred people stampeded in Iraq today.
Every day just seems to bring more awful things. I love you all!

Congrats on the vote! Good luck on the application for the position! Yep – boy do we need to count our blessings! No comment on the war!

Hey – Westi, where is my appointment for a pedicure? I want to go. You two live too far away! And can you stop and pick me up to go to Spain. I am jealous – very jealous! Send some Spanish my way b/c I think this 300 level ALL spanish class is going to kick my b… this semester.

Well, I don’t think I can bring you to Laura and I’s pedicure appointment, but if you give me the number of a local place for you, I can schedule you some pampering, too. =) We should all schedule a little pampering for ourselves weekly, and treat it like sleeping and eating. It’s important! We’ll see how I do in Spain con mi enspanol poco (I think this is structured improperly). I understand why you’re jealous because it’s been killing me watching everyone go on vacation all summer and looking at Steve’s fun pictures, while I sat cooped up in an office. Now everyone’s going back to school and setting in for the fall while I’m packing my bags. hehe!!

Thanks for the offer but the fun of the pedicure would be to do it with you and Laura! Though I might have to take your advice and get one soon too – it has been awhile. (I pamper but on a shoestring – I go to the beauty academy where students are practicing and get it much much cheaper!)

My life is pretty good but this form of pampering is a whole new adventure for me. Never had a pedicure before! Do like to look down and see color spots on my toes though … makes me smile. 🙂

I had never had one until a friend took me. It was fun and relaxing. I have to admit, after I quit Chrysler I treated myself to one at a salon and it was GREAT! Massage chair, water sounds in background, foot massage as well as the pedicure, etc…. It was a true pampering that time. Laura, allow yourself to relax when you are having it done and it will be GREAT!
