We left at the crack of 10:18 …

Lunch stop just before the tire blew!We weren’t very far down the road when we stopped for lunch at a picnic area. I took this picture trying to capture the beauty of the Texas Hill Country in the background … bright green foliage against dramatic puffy clouds in a vivid blue sky. That effort failed but I did succeed in documenting that, at the time of our stop, both trailer tires looked fine. Just a few miles down the road, the tire nearest the trailer door blew out. We really didn’t feel it but Steve noticed another driver looking at us funny and pulled over. It’s a good thing he did as all that was left of that tire was a few pitiful shreds of rubber. Not the best way to start a long drive! Before we got it changed a DOT employee and a State Trooper both stopped to make sure we were okay. The Trooper suggested we should replace the tire asap and directed us to a tire shop in the upcoming town of Brady. As we drove off we passed another car changing their tire and I started to wonder if the tire shop and the Trooper were in cahoots to take advantage of travelers. Especially ones with California plates! Steve thinks I’m being paranoid but I don’t know…

You are right, I don’t see the bright green trees and puffy white clouds against the vivid blue sky. Though, I didn’t really look at the tires either. I noticed the good looking happy guy waving to the camera. Great picture!

Sorry to hear about the tire experience! Glad you are all okay.

The trees and clouds and sky WERE in the full original image but the photo didn’t begin to do justice to the real scene. Best to change the focus, I decided. The drive through the Hill Country was gorgeous. As we traveled north the wildflowers got more and more spectacular. And ho hum, just another awesome Texas sky. Montana may call itself the “Big Sky State” but I don’t think they have anything on Texas in the sky department!

We just stopped for another break. Hopefully with a better outcome than our lunch stop. The best part of this stop is that Ginger pooped. There was something inappropriate in it that was not cat litter… couldn’t tell what… but at least whatever it was is out of her now and things are moving again. Woo hoo… we know what’s REALLY important in life!

    Laura,

I checked with my Dad and he states that Texas law enforcement never ever work with relatives or family members (No I did not ask what the difference is)to conspire too rob or steal from those who have the unfortunate tattoo that states ” I have more money than I need..ie Cal plates. He swears that they only do that to the other 48 states.

I suggest the use of an NRA bumber sticker, just remember to take it off before you enter Santa Cruz.
