My brother the Ironman

Even with a post-bike-accident broken collarbone and groin injury, my little brother is doing the Wisconsin Ironman today. As of this posting, he had finished the 2.4 mile swim and was starting on 112 mile bike ride. And at the end of that comes the 26.2 mile run! Yikes… with his injury he’s having trouble running but he say’s he’ll finish even if he has to walk all the way!

UPDATE:
Steven “Schreiber” from Wyandotte, Michigan …
YOU ARE AN IRONMAN!

From Michigan to California,
we watched you cross the finish line!
(thanks to the marvels of live internet feed)
CONGRATULATIONS STEVE!

For those that haven’t seen the tracking – Steve is done with swimming and the biking. He is off and running now. Way to go Steve!!!!!!!

Awesome Steve! Wow – you must be running to have that half way time on the run. Way to run through your injury!

Way to go Stever! You finished under 14 hours and looked good on the video at the finish line. Shaun and I are so proud of you!

Congratulations, Steve. It was good to hear your
voice last night even though you were hurting.
I relaxed a little when you finished biking – I
guess I was worried most about it. Did you hear
dad calling to you to get across that finish line?
You know how patient he is!! You did have your own rooting section on the internet. Cathy was great
keeping us updated. It helped to have her see
you in the flesh. love you

Great Job Steve! You are a true inspiration to everyone. You kept going when many others would have dropped out. Thanks again for being such an inspiration.

Thanks everyone. I am home and resting. I am not sure why everyone trains so hard for these ironman. Breaking a collar bone, injurying a hamstring by trying to return to soon to training (like running a half marathon in a sling, for example), then not being able to train for 5 weeks seemed to work OK. Sure both hamstrings cramped up multiple times, had burning plantar facitius in both arches, developed IT pain in my right knee and I reinjuried an old ab muscle injury…but everyone ends with some type of pain. I am doing much better tonight and basically can walk normally after the first 15-20 steps. My training partners were a big help and one qualified for the world championships in 2008 in Kona.
