Who am I?

I heard word that the dream story in my last post went unappreciated. Well, that might be the case again with this one. The first assignment in my Flash class was to learn use of the basic tools by creating a self-portrait. The end result is a little odd but I like it.

Self Portrait

Well, since I can guess that my mother has a big mouth and shared that I thought your dream was a little odd, I will cop to it! Though I will not say it was unappreciated. I like when you put things in the blog and I like when you do things that are your thoughts, no matter the topic and no matter how different from my own! So don’t stop.

As for your latest posting – wow! How did you make it look like you? Do you outline over another picture? Something about the smile and the left eye really makes it a portrait of you. That is so cool!

Wow, you’re fast. I just posted! So, the dream… “unappreciated” was my word, not mom’s. Or (apparently) yours. Perhaps “misunderstood” or just plain “not understood” would have been more accurate. At any rate, dreams are dreams … they are what they are and they often don’t make sense. At least mine. And that’s what makes them fascinating. How do all those disparate things come together? And why?

As for the self-portrait… we were required to draw them. I can’t really draw worth beans so mine is modeled on a photograph. I tried tracing it but that didn’t really work. Doing it sort of as a guided freehand worked better to make it look like me. Fun!

I think you have lots more talent than you give yourself credit. Maybe you are the artist in the family – and so I can make it through my writing class I need to become the writer in the family!

It is actually a Language Arts class that is focusing on writing teaching methods. Though so far we have read alot about methods but haven’t really practiced them. Right now all I have had to write are weekly “Refection Logs” on the readings and a first draft of my Wrting Autobiography. I think we will go through all steps of the process so it isn’t REALLY a writing course per se.

You are both pretty talented – writing and drawing! The Driver’s were very creative and I think you got something good from me but I didn’t get it. Your grandma had it though! I just said that you, Michele, might not be aware of all the road association wild meetings and undertand why Laura put her dream on web! I am glad she has good dreams also! Love you all – Big Mouth!

  6. Michele

Okay! Sorry that I called you a Big Mouth! I just knew right away where she had heard “opinions” from since I had told you to go read the blog.

You are more creative mom than you give yourself credit for and I wish I had you math genes too! Oh Laura, have you sent that book yet?

  7. Michele

No major rush so don’t send it special or priority or anything. I have several more weeks left in the semster and I probably won’t teach my “formal” math lesson until later in the semester! (I teach math every M, W, F but I don’t create those lessons so I thought the book might be helpful for me) I wish you could take this Math Methods course. The teacher is great and FUN and makes math fun. I can’t wait to teach math in the classroom b/c of the ideas she is giving me; I wish my teachers would have done some of the hand-ons stuff she does and teach the fun tips she give us to offer to our students. I can’t believe I am actually liking math again!!!!

  8. Laura

That’s very cool. I liked the teacher in my class last semester but the online curriculum was horrible. Still waiting for math to be fun! I’m glad I didn’t mess you up by spacing on sending you the book. In the process of rummaging around the bookshelves to find the book, I found a dead bat behind the couch. Probably better disposed of than not. So thanks for the reminder on that front as well!

    Hey Laura,
I must not be able to view the website correctly because half of your portrait comes out in black and white. 😉

  10. Michele

YUCK on the bat thing but at least you found it dead!!! We haven’t had any of the flying rats in our house now for about 3 weeks. We had 3 this late summer. I truly hate them – I don’t care what good they do for us!

  11. Laura

Steve, that’s my split (but powerful) personality modifying your screen.

Michele, I still love bats. Unfortunately, so do my cats. I watched Grayson the other morning on the greenhouse acting very strange. Now I think know why… he must have been bat hunting. And apparently with some success.

  12. mom

I just looked at your drawing again, Laura. You really did good. I agree with Michele that the colored part really looks like you! I guess it is the season for bats to come in the house. Aunt Dude also is having them. We are getting rain! Yeah! It messed up girls roller blading but we need it. Steve is coming to take them wall climbing at the Y when he gets here at 3. There was no open skate inside. Wes must be busy as no new messages from her. love you all

  13. Michele

Laura is it dangerous for your cats to bat hunt? Are you ever fearful they will get rabies from the bats? That is what I fear b/c Jack will be agressive when they are in the house (Caleb just walks away now and finds another place to sleep).

  14. Laura

Cats have rabies shots so should be fine. Not many bats actually have rabies anyway. If you have bats acting abnormally (for the type of bats they are), might be something to be concerned about for yourself but I’m guessing your cats have their shots too.

Oh, and mom… Westi called yesterday morning. She sounded good. Prefers daily life in Spain to festival life though. Not fond of bulls running in the streets …

  16. Westi in Spain

Hola everyone! Well, I don´t know about any bats, but we did get a flash little rain downpour here in Madrid a little while ago. Madrid is like most big cities, meaning there is a greater variety of food and more people who speak English, yay! I´m getting things ready for tomorrow when Rianna flys home and I head off on a train to the ancient town of Burgos. I´m a little nervous being alone, but I will have to learn how to survive and translate menus for myself. I miss you all and can´t wait to be back in my own bed and eat some American food. =) Love -Woo
