The wind finally settled down

… and we had a glorious paddle on Quail Reservoir this morning before heading off to Zion National Park. Mike and Westi left this morning to join us. Lucky us though… we’re only a half hour from Zion so our travels are short. We spent the last two nights here, outside St. George, Utah. It’s lucky we were so close to a city since Ginger got sick and needed to go to the vet. It turned out to be a bladder infection and something else we’re not sure of … maybe a side effect of her heart meds or maybe she ate something she shouldn’t have. At any rate, she seems to be on the road to recovery today.

Being out on the water was blissful. The water was serene, the views outstanding, and the bird watching was fun too. I didn’t expect to see loons in southern Utah but there they were, in the middle of flocks of eared grebes (life birds for us), western grebes, buffleheads, golden eyes and mergansers. Oh, and with the requisite osprey flying above and the lovely song of a canyon wren serenading from the shore. I took pictures but haven’t done anything with them yet. The same is true for the three days before that spent on BLM land in the Nevada desert, in a place called Whitney Pockets. It was beautiful in a way that photographs (at least mine) can’t begin to capture.

Everywhere has been wonderful … except for the wind. It wasn’t windy in Pahrump, and it wasn’t windy in the Bakersfield Camping World parking lot. Other than that, this morning was the first break from wind we have had. As I said, it was blissful.

Your canoe trip sounds wonderful. It is warm here
and I had some coffee this afternoon on the deck
in the sunshine. A few birds were around and the
trees are really budding. The lilac is getting
leaves, Laura. Actually later in May before it
blooms I think. Right and tell us where you are
and if Mike and Wes got there okay. love ya
Beanie wrote you but she did it after she looked
at several so it shows up back in March with the
camper and truck. She went to work today and Macy is
    better but still coughing.

The lilacs are in full bloom outside Zion! And Mike and Westi are here with us. We’ve had great camping neighbors, originally from Chicago and now living in Lyons, not far from Beanie and Jim. Glad Beanie is well enough to have gone back to work and that Macy is better too. I know I haven’t written much but life is full and the computer has a hard time competing with all the wonderful things to see and do!

We are to have 3 days of 70’s or near so things
should be popping here. Grass is green and trees
are budding. We saw a forsynthia in bloom on the
island but ours isn’t blooming yet. The flowers
on the deck give me hope for more soon. Zion sure
is beautiful from Wes’ photos. I wanted to pick
she and Mike right out of them though. love ya

Hey, where are you? I am thinking heading to TX.
Only time I wish I was in TX! Sounds like Wes
and MIke had great vacation. You will miss them!
Did you also go horseback riding? 3.5 hours is
long time so you should have sore butt if you did.
Hope to hear soon on your next adventure. love ya
