Shakepeare didn’t have the question quite right …

It isn’t “to be or not to be” … it is “will we get a new puppy or will we not?” and “Will they choose us or will they not?” Mind you, these aren’t just any puppies. These are Danish-Swedish Farm Dog puppies! We met the ones in the slideshow yesterday. Drove all the way to San Fran to do it too. They cost a pretty penny and they are very hard to come by, as mostly they reside in Denmark, Sweden and Norway. Papa to the pictured litter is in Denmark. Mama flew there for three weeks to make this litter possible. We have decided they are the “perfect dog”, and if chosen (it’s a little like being in junior high again, hoping to be picked for the team) … well … Ginger and Noche just might have a new friend!

Wow!new baby! How do you get this dog and
when if you do? That is what you were doing
    in SF. love you both

Well, we’re not sure if there is even a puppy available, at least to us. The breeders take the matter of who gets their puppies very seriously, and we would have to measure up by their standards. If we are chosen, then it would be 5 more weeks before this litter of five pups goes to new homes. They are 7 weeks now and will be left with their mom and sibs for a full 12. There is also a new litter of three pups in the area. They are only a week and a half old right now. We’ll see …

    Ack!
They are sooooooooo cute! They look a little like those Staffordshire China dogs my aunt used to have on her mantle.

I had to look….I knew you’d have pics!

Awww. Can’t imagine they’ll find anybody who’d love their puppy more than you. Hope some lucky little fur-kid finds a place in your home and hearts.

Well, the breeders of these special little dogs are (understandably) very into the advancement of the breed, and as such are more interested in folks who want to show dogs than those inclined to rescue dogs. Since we have always been squarely in the dog rescue camp, and buying one of these pups would be a departure from that, we very well may not be their choice. So far, they haven’t responded to the emails I sent after we visited with them, so I am guessing we didn’t pass muster. Ah well… maybe someday a Danish Swedish Farm Dog will need a good home and we’ll be there. For now, we have two wonderful and beloved mutts to be our doggy family.

They are so cute. Don’t give up hope. They are probably just out of town or so busy. When we were looking for Star I had to fill out a four page inquiry about us and our dog history. They may just want to wait and see how the pups develop, from raising sheep I know not all are show quality, some are just great pets. I always say no news is good news.
They are cute as a nickel. Cubby little munchkins.
    Love … helen

Just a wave from Ohio – hope all is well. I’d like to think you haven’t posted in a while because you’re busy with a new pup. If not, I guess you know that dog breeders are a breed onto themselves.

No, I’ve just been busy with school. I’m working and going to school full-time, and one of my classes is a programming class. My first and I’m struggling with it in a way I don’t usually struggle with school. We did not get picked for one of the pictured pups, though I feel okay about it because I met the woman who got picked over us for the only pup that was potentially available. I really liked her, and she had lost her old dog a few months ago. I’m glad she’s getting one of these babies. There is another litter in the area (which is really unusual!) … three males… and we are being “seriously considered” (it feels like junior high all over again!) We’ll see…

So good to hear from you… I better think of something to post! It HAS been a while!
