Gigglefern needed updating and Steve suggested I show off one of my homework assignments. Building this rock wall was easier on my back than the one outside but at times, I thought it was going to take as long. Each rock was individually drawn. I can’t say that about the leaves … thank goodness for “copy” and “paste”! Don’t forget to say “ooh ah” …

this from the woman who repeatedly tells me that she can’t draw!!!
I’m so impressed!
Well, if my success with Photoshop and Illustrator depended on my natural drawing ability, a sad thing it would be indeed. Although it certainly would be helpful, it turns out not to be necessary. Gotta love computer-aided design!
Ohhhhh ahhhhh and Wow! I am also impressed but I am not surprised after seeing the drawing you did of yourself for your other homework assignment.
Oh and by the way, Happy Belated Anniversary! I didn’t call last night b/c I thought you were out of town on an anniversary trip. I guess I misunderstood Mom. I hope you had a fun day with each other.
And yeah – an update on the webpage!
Thanks for the ooh ah, Michele. But the secret is that I can TRACE. The wall for this project started with tracing rocks from a photo of our real-life art project, “THE WALL” (see pictures above), then became group of basic colored shapes created in Illustrator. Then, with the magic and mystery of Photoshop filters and effects, and a lot of time in the wee hours of the night, it became what it is. A homework assignment. But one that’s been appreciated. Thank you for that.
Thanks for the update! Ooh Ahh, you are so talented. Green tree looks good to me since we have none at moment and much less than last year even when spring pops! Iris are coming up though so hopefully soon we will be seeing more green. The red-winged blackbird has been at feeder for several days and that is suppose to be our first sign of spring. I am enjoying the birds as feeder will come down soon. love you all
Ahhh, to be called “so talented”. There is nothing like having an audience of your mom, your sister and your sweetie to make you feel like a genius!
🙂
And yes, we are spoiled to have green trees year round. In fact, I think of our view sometimes as “unrelenting green”, it is just SO green. But the maple tree that was created for this illustration is made up… the big leaf maple I’m looking out the window at is just budding now. Why will your bird feeder come down soon?
We only feed in the winter when they need help
getting food. In the summer they would keep
everything a mess and neighbors probably would
not like us at all. In summer we would not see
them much but hear them so I don’t know what will
happen this summer, especially with construction.
love you all
Hey! You conquered the pen tool! Regardless of how you “pooh pooh” your talent, even the trace tool isn’t perfect and needs some manual labor to make it look good.
Congrats!
The tracing here was all done manually with the pen tool. I’ve never used the auto trace feature in Illustrator, although the newest version (the one I don’t have) does have a pretty cool new feature called “live trace”. So yep, I finally am getting better with the pen tool, although I still swear at it occasionally, and to say I’ve “conquered” it might be a stretch.
