At least that is what we keep telling ourselves. It requires a conscious effort to remember it lately. How many things can break at once? 25 inches of rain during which the roof leaked, the power went out, three surge protectors and the washing machine fried, the screen door fell off, the road cracked, our internet connection went down, Steve’s job was a nightmare and my appendix burst. Steve’s birthday, Christmas and New Year’s passed in a blur of mud and misery.
I learned a few things … that if you have abdominal pain and fever for days on end, go to the doctor. Sooner rather than later. That morphine makes me sick. That road emergencies can actually help feuding neighbors rise above the crap and pull together. That people care about me.
We’re still waiting for things to get better for Steve at work. For the washer to get fixed and the tube to come out of my belly. For the road repairs and the tarps to come off the roof. To have the energy to clean up the mess. For life to be fun.
But we know that even through it all, we are lucky. The sun is shining, the roof is patched (and fingers are crossed), the washer repair is scheduled and I haven’t had a fever in a week. We are together. We have the cutest dogs in the world and a working internet connection (not necessarily in order of importance.)
Life is good.

Great to have you back on web, Laura! Now we know you are getting better. Good luck at the doctor today. Hope Steve’s work improves soon. I think Wes’ was right thing for you on Sat. Just be patient and things will be great soon.
love you both
Doc visit went well. No more tube! Back to work on Wednesday…
Yep, if Laura’s online, that’s a good sign. I was more than happy to provide a little doggy play date, a washing machine, and a simple homemade (sort-of) dinner. I’m glad to hear the tube is out and hope you continue to improve!
